Running with the Corporate Hoards

Every year, my company runs the Corporate Challenge, and it’s always a little scary. Imagine thousands of people running down Commonwealth Avenue in company t-shirts that say things like “We’re Welch’s Run Team and we’re going to kick your ASS!“.

It’s all fun-n-games for the first couple miles, but on mile three, no one can really run any more—as a result of being out of shape or excessive beer consumption, it’s hard to say.

Being in incredible physical condition, running between these people was like running between pylons.

Afterwards, my company drank some beers and listened to Metallica on the jukebox.

Enter, Sandman.

When the hometown wins the game, the Townie children get very excited.

Chillin’ with cool people, style.

Last night we here at Gikku.Com were invited to a very, very exclusive Improper Bostonian event. This event included a GUEST LIST (which we were on), a GIFT BAG FULL OF SCHWAG (which we greedily took), and FREE FOOD and DRINKS (which we happily drank).

I’d also like to note that our pictures were snapped by at least 3 different photographers. I can only believe that we will make THE LIST or some reasonable facsimile of it.

As I keep telling Caitlin, I am rapidly becoming a Minor Boston Celebrity and I think it suits me.

Please note teeny, tiny image of my apartment in window.

Hello, what is your name?
Cool Guy.

Here at Gikku.Com, we find ourselves travelling quite a bit. As a service to our loyal readers, we are always happy to give a brief recount of our trips. This entry is no exception.

Caitlin and I went to visit her parents in Richmond, VA on Friday night and arrived back in Townie Town this morning. I can honestly report that Richmond is sort of a Townie Town “Southern Fried” version, full of stray dogs, angry Southern Townies, Food Lions (“ROOOAARRR for green meat!!!”), and lots of Jesus.

I mean, what else is there to do?

Well, Slip-n-Slide in the backyard at Cait’s friend Ashton’s house, for example.

Or you can smoke and throw things in the air (as demonstrated by Ashton).

Or, you can just remember the old tymes by eating GRITS.

Reputed underboss vowed during arrest to ‘smile tomorrow’
Globe Staff / May 8, 2008

Reputed New England Mafia underboss Carmen “The Cheese Man” DiNunzio knew he’d been caught in a sting when he was being booked on a bribery charge at the FBI Friday and the man he thought was a corrupt state official stopped by to say hello.

“He is a FBI agent?” asked DiNunzio, suddenly realizing that the purported Massachusetts highway inspector who had allegedly taken a $10,000 bribe from him in September 2006 was, in fact, an undercover agent, according to documents filed yesterday during a bail hearing in federal court in Boston.

The 50-year-old DiNunzio, who got his nickname because he owns a cheese shop in Boston’s North End, was urged during his arrest to cooperate with investigators, but said “he wouldn’t hurt his ‘friends,’ he would ‘smile today and smile tomorrow,’ and he would take whatever came his way,” according to one of the FBI documents.

DiNunzio, of East Boston, was indicted last week along with two other men, Anthony D’Amore, 55, of Revere and Andrew Marino, 42, of Chelmsford, on a charge of conspiracy to commit bribery. The trio are accused of paying a bribe to the undercover agent in a bid to secure a $6 million contract to provide 300,000 cubic yards of loam or fill for the Big Dig.
