Overheard in the North End: Holiday Cheer Edition

[Overheard while walking down the street with my mafia sandwich and a CVS bag. The North End is packed with angry, frustrated tourists today elbowing each other for Christmas cannolis.]

A valet parking attendent is bitching out a driver.

Local North Ender Pedestrian: Hey!

Valet looks over.

Local: Hey! Yeah you! Why you gotta be a dick?

Valet mumbles something.

Local: You think you own the streets? Huh?

Valet mumbles something in response.

Local: You think you own these streets?

Valet mumbles again.

Local: Yeah. You know what’s comin’.

Italian Sub, Fresh Cheese Shop, Endicott Street, North End, Townie Town

Reputed Mafia underboss Carmen “The Big Cheese” DiNunzio was arrested on extortion and illegal gambling charges as he emerged from a North End social club yesterday, potentially ending the reign of an underworld leader credited with uniting the fractured Boston mob into a low-key, profit-focused machine.

DiNunzio, whose nickname comes from his ownership of the Fresh Cheese shop on Endicott Street, owns an interest in Carmen’s Kitchen restaurant in East Boston.

Please be advised: there is no point to this post.

My little sister told me to meet her at Mary’s Fish Camp which I thought was on Washington Square Park but I was sorely mistaken. So I took a picture of the arch and imagined what it must have been like in the early 80’s when there were needles everywhere.

Turned out the place was too crowded anyway so we went back to the nameless burger joint at Le Parker Meridien and made my sister’s boyfriend get us burgers, fries, and beers.

It’s love.

And I approve.

Running With The (Old) Devils

Went to the Van Halen show last night, complete with David Lee Roth.  The first song was “You Really Got Me”.  Not sure how I feel about opening up your concert with a cover song, but the light show was bitchin’.

Then Eddie Van Halen rocked everyone’s world with some sick guitar playing, while David Lee Roth did questionable faux karate moves with his mic stand on the catwalk during “Hot For Teacher”…

Then the show closed with (what else) “Jump”.

But boy, are they looking old.  Which means, I am old.
